NOTHING IS

When you saw me Saturday night
In that distant neon light
I knew you'd never really love me the same
Trace the patterns in my mind
Some I hate & some I like
But I swear I've worked so hard to keep things straight

Now nothing is like nothing was
But how could we've know
When everyone up on the screen seemed to agree
That freedom comes occasionally if you obey the police
& work enough to cover costs, maybe find some peace

There's no endless blissed out night
No there are lows & there are highs
Just like the way the sunlight dies & colors fade
I've been unwanted & learned to move on
I'd be forgotten had I stuck around

Nothing is like nothing was
But how could we've know
When everyone up on the screen seemed to agree
That freedom comes occasionally when you obey the police
& work enough to cover costs, maybe find some peace
