WHAT A WEIRD HILL TO DIE ON

Written by Roger Harvey

It’s a crazy old world we’re all living in
I done my best to not get caught in the spin
But lately I’ve been talking to some internet friends
& it turns out I was confused

The truth is out there if you join the right groups
The truest truths are the ones that work for you
If it makes you uncomfortable it’s probably a myth
Besides that’s so much easier than dealing with it

Now that I’m sure I bought some stickers to prove
And I put em on my bumper cause I ain’t nobody’s fool
I drive around town hoping my message gets through
& so everyone knows I’m not weak

Have you considered maybe you’ve been fooled
By the people you swore were telling the truth
Even though they’ve never done nothing for you
What a weird hill to die on

I like my music without the politics
Can’t do nothing these days without being reminded
That there is a world that we all have to live in
& it doesn’t just revolve around me & my friends

They say people of all kinds deserve equal rights
But the people I know are 99% white
The latter are the exception to every rule
That I was made to memorize when I was going to school

Now there putting out a call up on capitol hill
I was given a ticket before the seats got filled
I can’t even recall what we came to fulfill
Maybe manifest destiny?

Have you considered maybe you’ve been fooled
By the people you swore were telling the truth
Even though they’ve never done nothing for you
What a weird hill to die on

When we arrived it was a choatic scene
We were just trying to hang Mike Pence peacefully
Watched everything sacred became nothing but a rag
My blue lives matter hat & this American flag

Now I’m sitting alone inside a federal cell
They said I’d get into heaven but I might be going to hell
& If I was wrong I guess we’ll have to wait & see
Heard they won’t even let my president tweet

One last request if it ain’t too much trouble
If you could go to my house & bring along a big shovel
Roundup my computer & all my cellular devices
& bury them in the yard

Have you considered maybe you’ve been fooled
By the people you swore were telling the truth
Even though they’ve never done nothing for you
What a weird hill to die on
